Always research any contractor that you are thinking about hiring. Here are some helpful links.

Rip off reportCustomers use this site to report bad experiences with various companies, including building contractors. Although there might be two sides to the story and the contractor might not be entirely at fault, the site is still a good resource.

BBBCheck to see if the contractor is a member of the Better Business Bureau. If so, verify that the contact information, including address and phone number, is correct and check for any complaints. 

The company’s Web site – Find out if the contractor specializes in insurance-based restorations. If the company builds new homes or additions onto existing houses, it’s possible that they are trying to profit from a storm or have sold the use of their name to an out-of-state storm-chaser. Just as you wouldn’t go to a doctor when you have a toothache, you need a specialist. If the company’s advertising doesn’t list a Web site, try searching through Google.
